AlwaysFree: Britain Considers Easing Curbs On Foreign Trucks To Ease Supply Chain Constraints

Author: SSESSMENTS

The British government is considering easing curbs on the number of drop-offs that foreign truckers can make on trips to the UK to ease supply chain constraints. Under the proposed plan, foreign trucks can make an unlimited number of stops within two weeks after entering the country to facilitate extra deliveries. The policy could come into effect toward the end of the year and would be in place for six months.

The UK economy is facing shortages of goods from fuels to foods as the effects of Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic, and soaring natural gas prices. Local supermarkets are left with empty shelves, while gas stations are running dry. The lack of truck drivers also creates a backlog of containers at ports. The government is also offering 800 short-term work visas to pork butchers to help deal with a backlog of pigs awaiting slaughter.
