AlwaysFree: US Coal-Fired Electricity Generation Likely Up in 2021

Author: SSESSMENTS

On Monday, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimated that the country’s coal-fired electricity generation would likely go up in 2021 on the back of soaring natural gas prices.

EIA predicted coal-fired generation this year would rise by 22% year-on-year, the first annual increase since 2014.

However, the EIA also foresaw that the increase in coal generation would likely not continue in the upcoming year. Instead, it would likely fall by 5% on account of the continuing retirements of generating capacity at coal power plants and slightly lower natural gas prices.
