According to the company’s website press release on September 22, 2022, the ORLEN Unipetrol Group continues to meet its strategic development objectives by 2030. As part of this strategy, it also focuses on the principles of circular economy and sustainability. It develops them by building a broad portfolio of recycling activities, thanks to which it can effectively obtain and process plastic waste and biowaste and make new petrochemical products and biofuels from it. Now it follows these activities, especially in chemical recycling, with its entry into the segment of mechanical recycling by acquiring REMAQ, a leading player in the region of Central and Eastern Europe, in its group.
“The company’s projects in the field of chemical recycling of plastics will allow ORLEN Group not only to implement the assumptions of the circular economy, but also to reduce the demand for oil and gas in petrochemical production. The acquisition of REMAQ will enable the expansion of the ORLEN Group's competences in the field of mechanical recycling. The company’s goal is to properly link all waste recycling methods and create a fully functional chain in which local governments, waste distributors and final processors work together efficiently. In line with the ORLEN Group's Strategy, ORLEN Group strive to have a recycling capacity of plastics and natural waste of up to 400 thousand tonnes in 2030. It is also the company’s contribution to the protection of the environment and the planet, which will also contribute to building the value of the concern in the long term,” said Daniel Obajtek, President of the Management Board of PKN ORLEN.

One of them is the development of recycling activities so that in 2030 up to twenty percent of the company’s petrochemical production is created through the recycling of plastic and organic waste," added Tomáš Wiatrak, CEO of ORLEN Unipetrol Group.

Together REMAQ will be stronger and better able to respond to customer expectations by enriching the company’s product portfolio with specialized applications and further reducing its carbon footprint," said Libor Večeřa, CEO of REMAQ.
The Italian-Czech company REMAQ, s.r.o. was established in 2004. It focuses on production and trading with plastic recyclates, especially polypropylene, polyethylene and polystyrene. In 2009 the company opened a production plant in the Otrokovice industrial zone. It operates four modern regranulation lines with a total capacity of 2,400 tonnes per month. REMAQ is the most important and fastest-growing company that recycles plastic in the Czech Republic and also holds a significant position in the European market. It employs 80 people, and its revenue exceeds half a billion korunas. Completion of the acquisition is expected by the end of March 2023 at the latest.
The ORLEN Unipetrol Group is the largest refining and petrochemical company in the Czech Republic. It focuses on crude oil processing and the production, distribution and sale of vehicle fuels and petrochemical products – particularly plastics and fertilisers. It belongs among the critical players in the Czech and Central European markets in all these areas.
