Saudi Arabia’s state-run Saudi Aramco has joined the Oil & Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), a group of large oil firms working to respond to climate change and pledging to cut the carbon intensity of their own operations.
By 2025, the members of OGCI plans to curb their operating carbon intensity to 20-21 kg of CO2/boe, or 13% down from the level in 2017. Meaning it would eliminate up to 52 mtpa of CO2, equivalent to the total emissions from about 6 million US homes. It does not include customer emissions.
European and US oil majors, including BP, Shell, Total, ExxonMobil, and Chevron are members of OGCI.
