Austrian plastic manufacturer ALPLA group has launched a new facility in Toluca, Mexico, to recycle post-consumer high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The construction of the €20-million ($23-million) plant started in September 2020, and it took less than a year to complete. The plant has a capacity of 15,000 tons/year of recycled high-density polyethylene (rHDPE). ALPLA has also announced a plan to expand the plant’s capacity to 30,000 tons/year in the second half of 2022. The regranulate high-density polyethylene (HDPE) from this facility will be mainly used for non-food packaging such as household cleaning agents and personal care products. The company said the plant would meet the high demand for recycled high-density polyethylene (rHDPE) in Mexico and Central America.
