Bora LyondellBasell Petrochemical Co. Ltd, a 50:50 joint venture between China’s Liaoning Bora Enterprise Group and LyondellBasell, on Tuesday announced the startup of a polyolefin complex in the northeastern Chinese province of Liaoning. Bora and LyondellBasell are also planning on additional petrochemical projects that can be implemented in phases in the next ten years.
The joint venture facility includes a 1.1 million tons/year cracker that can process naphtha and LPG. It is also integrated with 800,000 tons/year and 600,000 tons/year of downstream polyethylene and polypropylene production capacities, respectively. The complex uses LyondellBasell’s proprietary Hostalen ACP PE technology as well as its Spheripol and Spherizone PP process technologies.
Polyolefin products from the facility will be marketed in China. LyondellBasell’s CEO Bob Patel said polymer demand had returned in China after the COVID-19 pandemic, while the project would also benefit from the long-term growth trends in the country.
