Production of meltblown fabrics for face mask applications has been started by Borealis Group AG on its unique pilot line in Linz, Austria. The company has quickly converted to regularly produce rolls of fine fiber fabrics for face masks, from smaller-scale pilot production.
A new proprietary polypropylene (PP) meltblown resin is recently developed by Borealis. The filtration properties have been boosted due to its capability for finer fibers. To increase face masks production, Borealis is helping bolster the supply of filtration media by exploiting a robust network of co-operation partners in the country.
The Application Hall at Borealis Innovation Headquarters in Linz is the location for the temporarily converted small-scale pilot testing facilities. To produce meltblown fabric, the newly developed Borealis HL912FB is being used. The meltblown fabric is applied for customised inlays in cotton-based mouth-nose masks for high-end face masks worn by medical professionals also conventional mouth-nose masks.
