BP has partnered with Danish renewable energy group Orsted in developing zero-carbon hydrogen at the Lingen oil refinery in northwest Germany.
BP said that in the early stages, the project will build a 50 MW electrolyzer to replace 20% of natural gas-based hydrogen at the refinery. It is expandable to up to 500 MW at a later stage to replace Lingen’s fossil fuel-based hydrogen.
Production of the project is targeted to begin in 2024. However, the estimated cost was not revealed.
