Brazilian petrochemical maker Braskem, in its latest sustainability report, said it would intensify efforts in eliminating plastic waste by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Braskem launched its long-term sustainability targets for the first time in 2009. The goal emphasizes the commitment to offering solutions that address climate change. The company has been using renewable sources and recycled content in the manufacturing of its I’m green™ products. So far, it has also managed to cut carbon intensity by 20%. In 2018, pledged to reuse, recycle, or recover 100% of its plastic packaging by 2040.
Included in the company’s sustainability commitments is expanding the I’m green™ portfolio to include sales of 300,000 tons/year of recycled content products by 2025 and increase it further to 1 million tons/year by 2030. Braskem also aims at diverting 1.5 million tons of plastic waste away from landfill, incineration, and the environment by 2030. Braskem also plans to reduce carbon emissions from its operations by 15% in 2030 before eventually reaching carbon neutrality in 2050.
