Author: SSESSMENTS

Brazil exported a total of 298.84 million litres of ethanol in June, increasing by 75% from June 2019 to the highest for any June since 2013, according to data from the country’s Secretariat of International Trade (SECEX) released on July 6. The US was the largest export market destination for Brazilian ethanol in June, receiving 129 million litres or 43.2% of total exports, followed by South Korea with 82 million litres.

In the first six months of 2020, Brazil’s ethanol exports totalled 843.6 million litres, 20% higher than exports in the same period last year. According to SECEX data, ethanol exports in June added $122 million in Brazil’s exports revenue.

Despite surging exports, domestic ethanol surplus persists due to the consumption crisis. Brazil produced 8.04 billion litres of ethanol from April 1 to June 16, reflecting a 3.69% year-on-year rise in output. However, sales plunged 27% year-on-year to 4.80 billion litres over the same period, the latest data from Industry Association, UNICA showed.
