The developers of Calcasieu Pass and Golden Pass LNG export terminals said that they expected to start up the facilities on schedule despite global market volatility, the continued impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and an unusually active hurricane season in 2020. The 10 million tons/year Calcasieu Pass LNG terminal is developed by Venture Global LNG, while the up to 18 million tons/year Golden Pass LNG plant is backed by ExxonMobil and Qatar Petroleum.
Calcasieu Pass project recently received mixed refrigerant compressor skids and two prefabricated modular liquefaction trains made by Baker Hughes at its Italian factory. Calcasieu Pass is expected to start operations in 2022.
The updates from the two projects contrast those of new LNG projects that have yet to be sanctioned. Developers have not made final investment decisions on these new projects as they struggled to build commercial support. Some of them even decided to delay the FIDs until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
