Sinopec Corp.’s Zhongke Refinery Port, China’s biggest petrochemical port located on the east coast of Zhanjiang, Guangdong, has started operation with the successful docking and unloading of the New Renown, Crude Oil Tanker (VLCC) from the Middle East.
The port is positioned 1,100 meters from Sinopec’s refinery plant, as a part of the company’s ‘front terminal, rear plant’ production model. It is a part of the Zhanjiang Integrated Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, which is the biggest project of its kind under construction by Sinopec. It is also a key component of the Guangdong Province’s 13th Five-Year Plan.
It has a total capacity of 34 million tpa with eight terminals, including a 300,000-tonnes crude oil berth, 100,000-tonnes oil berth, and supporting facilities. The berth is the biggest domestic refined oil terminal, equipped with a loading and unloading capacity of 5.6 million tpa.
The port provides access to refined oil and chemical products for Sinopec’s core domestic markets while at the same time services global exports and enhances the company’s competitiveness.
The project’s total investment for the first phase is more than USD5.64 billion. It will add more than 10 million tonnes of refined crude capacity and 800,000 tpa of ethylene, in addition to the auxiliary supporting facilities. Upon completion, the refinery’s output will be more than 8.64 billion.
The final project is targeted to be fully completed and get into production by end-July. At the moment, more than 18,000 builders are working on the project with 28 major production facilities have delivered out of 30.
