The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade said the country is offering force majeure certificates to local companies if they are unable to fulfil their international contractual obligations due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Besides customs declarations and export cargo sales contracts or agreements, the companies when applying for the force majeure certificates also need to provide proof of delays and cancellations for air, land or sea transport.
The government’s move providing the certificate for its local companies is to protect the interests of China-based companies and to help reduce their losses.
Coronavirus cases emerged in Europe and the US with more than 6,100 people globally affected. The death toll has increased to 132 across China.
Due to the virus outbreak, flights suspended or reduced by key international airlines including Swiss International Air Lines, British Airways, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, American Airlines, and United Airlines.
