A preliminary figure from China’s General Administration of Customs showed the country imported 9.38 million tons (12.93 Bcm) of LNG and piped natural gas in October, representing a decline of 11.7% from September. Market participants said higher prices discouraged Chinese buyers from taking in more gas, especially from the spot market. However, last month’s gas imports still reflect a 24.5% increase from a year earlier. China’s total gas imports came in at 99.07 million tons or 136.62 Bcm over January-October, which were up 22.3% from the corresponding period in 2020. The customs administration is due to release separate data on LNG and piped gas import volumes later in November.
