The biofuel business unit of Switzerland-based Clariant AG has formed a strategic partnership with Chemtex Global Corp. to develop second-generation biofuel projects in China. Both companies will cooperate in marketing and selling Clariant’s proprietary sunliquid technology licenses, supplies, and services to Chinese clients to build renewable fuel plants.
The sunliquid technology offers an efficient process to produce low-emission, carbon-negative biofuel from agricultural residues. Hence, the partnership claims it will help the Chinese government’s push to reduce transport greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by converting agricultural residue into motor fuel. Beijing has proposed to require fuel producers to include bioethanol as an additive in their blends.
The partnership will offer a comprehensive package which includes ethanol technology licenses, technical services, starter cultures supply, and Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) services. This will allow their Chinese clients to design, build, and operate their own full-scale biofuel plants.
