China’s state-controlled CNOOC received a carbon-neutral LNG cargo from Total on September 29. The shipment was delivered from the 8.9 million tons/year Ichthys LNG terminal operated by Inpex in Australia to CNOOC’s 6.7million tons/year Dapeng LNG import terminal in Guangdong province. Total, which has around 1.5 million tons/year LNG contract with CNOOC, did not disclose the size of the cargo.
The Methane Lydon Volney loaded the cargo at Australia’s Darwin port on September 11, tanker tracking data showed. It has a full capacity of 3.42 trillion Btu. In June, CNOOC signed a contract with Shell for two carbon-neutral LNG cargoes. However, the delivery date and the size of the cargoes were undisclosed.
CNOOC said it would auction cargoes from Shell on the Shanghai petroleum and natural gas exchange. However, the auction date was unknown. Previously, Shell delivered a carbon-neutral cargo to Taiwan’s state-owned CPC in March and Tokyo Gas and GS Energy in July 2019.
