A consortium consisting of EP Infrastructure (Epif), Eustream, Nafta, and RWE Supply & Trading plans to build blue hydrogen production facilities in eastern Slovakia.
RWE is planned to off-take and import the low-carbon hydrogen output to Germany and other RWE core markets in Western Europe via a repurposed Eustream gas pipeline. Meanwhile, the carbon dioxide captured during hydrogen generation is prospected to be stored within the depleted natural gas fields in Slovakia or other Central Eastern European countries.
The project will also assist in establishing the infrastructure needed for future imports of green hydrogen from Eastern Europe.
