AlwaysFree: Decommissioning Site Could Be Recommended By US Strategic Petroleum Reserve Study

Author: SSESSMENTS

The study on the future of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is expected to be released by the US Department of Energy. One of the government's four crude oil storage sites along the Gulf Coast could be decommissioned based on the study recommendation.

Before the end of the year, the study is expected to be released publicly. However,  the study has not yet finalized due to concerns from the DOE and Trump administration regarding some of the report's recommendations.

Due to the potential loss of jobs if the site were to close, a recommendation to decommission one storage site has drawn resistance.

To lease unused storage space in the SPR private companies will be another potential recommendation from the study. Due to the likely effect commercial operations may have on government storage facilities, that recommendation continues to be debated.
