AlwaysFree: Delfin Granted Another Year Extension to Build Louisiana Floating LNG Project

Author: SSESSMENTS

On Wednesday, the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) granted Delfin LNG its second one-year extension to build its planned floating liquefied natural gas export facility in Louisiana. The newest extension is until September 2021, following the previous extension in June 2019 until September 2020. Delfin’s project was originally authorized in September 2017 to finish in September last year.

The company first planned the facility’s final investment decision (FID) in 2020 and it should be operational in mid-2024.

Until now, Delfin has not started constructing the facility and has delayed the FID from 2019 to 2020, affected by the crash in energy prices.

Many North American developers planned to establish FIDs by the end of 2019 but none of those projects have gotten under construction and all were postponed until this year or later.

Likewise, at the start of 2020, a dozen companies announced their plans to make FIDs this year but now the amount is down to just four. Analysts estimated only one of the projects would actually proceed this year.
