- Esso (Thailand) Public Company Limited presented support to the “Ocean Clean-up, Robo-Ship Camp” program, organized by the Institute of Marine Science, Burapha University. The Camp aims to enhance innovations of students along the eastern coast region to develop their creativity and technological practices in environmental conservation including the initiative on garbage collecting robots. It also encourages young people and the public to be more aware of the situation and problems of marine wastes.
According to the company’s website press release on January 4, 2023, on this occasion, Dr. Taweesak Bunluesin Esso director, presented the 320,000-baht support to Dr. Bunlung Nuangsaeng, director of The Institute of Marine Science, Burapha University. The presentation was witnessed by Thawatchai Srithong, Chon Buri governor, Wittaya Khunpluem chief executive of Chon Buri Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watcharin Gasaluck, president of Burapha University and Narongchai Khunpluem, mayor of Saensuk Municipality.
As schools in Chonburi province, located in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), would still like to promote students' skills in designing and creating robots, the Institute of Marine Science organizes the "Ocean Clean-up, Robo-Ship Camp.” Under the supervision of lecturers and students of Burapha University’s Faculty of Engineering, and the institute’s scientists, the camp provides participating students an opportunity to develop scientific skills and learn about STEM robotics through designing and creating robots that can sort waste of different shapes, e.g., round, square, fish-shaped, rope-shaped materials. This will prevent small materials from drifting into the sea, decomposing into micron-sized particles and entering the food chain where humans are ultimate consumers.
