AlwaysFree: Estee Lauder Announces Sustainable Packaging Partnership With SABIC, Albea

Author: SSESSMENTS

The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) and its skincare brand Origins on October 14 announced a sustainable packaging partnership with petrochemical maker SABIC and packaging manufacturer Albéa. The partnership aims at introducing an advanced recycled tube packaging to market next year. Albea will produce high-performing tubes using certified circular polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) provided by SABIC. The circular polymers are made of recycled post-consumer mixed plastics material.

The circular PE and PP is part of SABIC’s TRUCIRCLE portfolio. The polymers are made of hard-to-recycle plastics that are turned into their basic building blocks using advanced recycling technology. The building blocks can be used to produce circular polymers which have on par characteristics with virgin polymers.

The high-performing tube will be used to pack Origins’ Active Charcoal Mask under the Clear Improvement brand. This partnership is part of ELC’s efforts to increase the post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials content in its packaging by up to 50% in the next five years. Origins also aims at making at least 80% of its packaging is refillable, reusable, recoverable, or recyclable by 2023.
