AlwaysFree: Extended Lockdown In India’s Red Zone Until June 30, Reopening Plan Ongoing Elsewhere

India government plan to extends the lockdown until June 30 in high-risk or red zones, but announcing the setup for partial reopening in other areas. The shopping centre, public dining and religious facilities located outside red-zone areas can be reopened from June 8. Restriction for intra-state travel is also lifted, though city train services and international air travel are still banned. 

Although a high number of cases reported nationwide on Saturday, May 30, the reopening plan is still ongoing with ensuring rules in physical distancing and limited business hours. India’s Home Ministry instructed local government and authorities to determine the containment areas which still needed to remain under lockdown, as the areas still showing high infection numbers. 

The country’s daily record of 7,964 new Coronavirus infections reported on Saturday, May 30, and the total number of positive cases reached 173,763 with 4,971 deaths, making India rates as ninth on the list of world’s infections. This staggering rate is also concerning since India ranked as the world’s second-most populous country, with a population more than 1.387 billion. Even though the fatality rates are comparatively low, health experts alerting about the pandemic curve whereas India has not reached the peak yet, considering new infections number keep increasing on a daily basis. Millions of jobless migrants who return home from cities also could be the way of viruses spreading further into the villages.

Moreover, the government also expected states to reopening schools and colleges in July.
