AlwaysFree: Exxon’s Imperial Oil To Build Plant-Based Renewable Diesel Plant

Author: SSESSMENTS

Imperial Oil Ltd on Wednesday said it would produce renewable diesel from vegetable oil at its 191,000-bpd Strathcona refinery in Canada. The project is part of majority-owner ExxonMobil’s target to produce more than 40,000 bpd of low-emissions fuels by 2025. Imperial plans to construct a hydrotreater in 2024 that will use blue hydrogen to process vegetable oils from canola, soybean, etc., into 20,000 bpd of renewable diesel.

Exxon said Imperial’s would capture and store about 500,000 tons/year of CO2 from its production processes. The renewable diesel project will be in line with Canada’s Clean Fuel Standard set to take effect in 2022. Under the policy, Canada aims at cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030 from 2005 baselines.
