Russian state-controlled energy giant Gazprom signed an agreement with Hungarian energy group MVM to supply natural gas to the eastern European country via the TurkStream pipeline and other gas pipelines in southeastern Europe. Under the deal, Gazprom will export 4.5 Bcm/year of natural gas to Hungary for 15 years starting from October 1, 2021. The agreement is sharply criticized by Ukraine. Sergei Makogon, the general director of the Ukrainian Gas Transmission System Operator, said the deal might reduce or completely stop the gas transit from Russia to Hungary via Ukraine.
