The Greek government has shortlisted five hydrogen projects that will apply for financial support under the EU’s Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEIs). These projects are Blue Med, H2CEM, H2CAT Tanks, Green HIPo, and White Dragon. The European Commission will assess the proposal for inclusion in the IPCEI list. According to the Commission, IPCEIs are large initiatives aiming to tackle hurdles in developing a hydrogen value chain in Europe based on common European interests.
Blue Med plans to produce green and blue hydrogen for the transportation sector and other industries by 2025. The H2CEM project will focus on producing, storing, and using green hydrogen at Titan’s cement and building material plants. H2CAT Tanks will include building high-pressure tanks to store hydrogen, especially for the transportation sector. Green HIPo aims to set up a plant to produce electrolytes and fuel cells. Meanwhile, the White Dragon consists of multiple projects including, green hydrogen production in Greece’s western Macedonia region.
