Several relaxations have been announced by the government. However, India’s exports through the land ports in West Bengal to Bangladesh are yet to resume. At various locations along the border, around 5,000 trucks remain stuck.
Truckers are worried that they will be quarantined following their return from Bangladesh after unloading goods. To resolve the crisis, the state administration is not making any intervention, Federation of Indian Exports Organization's regional chairman said. The status of exports to Nepal or Bangladesh has not changed.
On June 1, greater relaxations came into effect. Exporters thought that trade can resume and the truckers will be exempted from the strict quarantine norms. There is a fear among drivers and helpers after returning following unloading of trucks that they have to stay in 14-day mandatory quarantine.
Resumption of exports allowed by the state government on May 11. However, trade prevented to take off due to fear among locals over the spread of coronavirus from the returning truckers.
