MK Surana, the chairman of India’s state-owned refiner HPCL, said the company is running its Mumbai refinery at 80% of capacity while testing new units there. The refinery was shut in April for maintenance and revamp to expand its capacity from 150,000 bpd to 190,000 bpd. Surana said HPCL plans to reach full operations at the revamped plant this month. He also added that HPCL’s 166,000 bpd Visakhapatnam refinery is running at above 100% rates. The company plans no shutdown at Visakhapatnam until a project to expand its capacity to 300,000 bpd, slated for completion in 2022.
