Ineos Styrolution said it would introduce mechanically recycled polystyrene (PS) to European, Middle Eastern, and African markets. The product range will be marketed under the “Styrolution PS ECO 440” brand. The mechanically-recycled PS is produced using a near-infrared sorting process developed by the Norwegian technology firm Tomra. It will have a PS purity of more than 99.9%. The final product will be fully recyclable and have 100% post-consumer recycled content.
Ineos Styrolution said it would start production of 1,000 tons of mechanically recycled PS in 2021 for the three regional markets. The move is in line with the company’s pledge to use on average 30% recycled content in PS packaging products in Europe by 2025. Styrolution PS ECO 440 addresses customers’ sustainability and circularity goals. It is also suitable for a wide range of applications, including food containers.
