Inovyn announced a power to methanol project in Antwerp, Belgium where it will join in a feasibility study with a consortium. If the study is successful, the company will launch a new unit at Lillo site in the city.
The consortium to work with Lillo is made up of seven industrial and business partners which are Engie, Oiltanking, Indaver, Fluxys, the Flemish Environmental Holding Company (Vlaamse Milieu Holding) and Port of Antwerp.
If the study goes well as planned, Inovyn will build the first Belgian industrial-scale demonstration unit producing 8,000 tpa of sustainable methanol from captured CO2 combined with hydrogen that is generated from renewable electricity.
The facility is targeted to save at least 8,000 tpa of CO2 emissions. The future development could see increased volumes of sustainable methanol produced for wider industry use, including as a sustainable fuel for marine and road transport.
