Inovyn ChlorVinyls Ltd. launched the world’s first commercial bioattributed PVC under the brand Biovyn. The product is different from other biosourced PVC products as it utilizes second-generation feedstock, not competing with the food chain.
Biovyn has comparable properties with fuel-based PVC products and can be processed using the same methods.
The current production volumes were not disclosed, but the demand is expected to grow as demand for biopolymers has tripled in the past decade.
Inovyn business director Filipe Constant elaborated on the product, “We are using the bioattribution principle, which means the final product does not necessarily contain the bio-based molecules, but there is a direct connection between the molecules and the final product.”
The supply chain for the product has been certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB), a voluntary scheme approved by the European Commission used to show compliance with the sustainability criteria of the EU Renewable Energy Directive.
