On Wednesday, Iraq’s state news agency INA quoted a Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) minister saying that Iraq’s federal government has requested them to cut oil production by 120,000 bpd.
According to Khaled al-Shawani, the KRG minister responsible for dealing with Baghdad, the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region only consumed 30,000 bpd of oil but at the moment it is still exporting oil without consulting the federal government which has been troubling Iraq.
Iraq is participating in the oil output cut pact of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and allies (OPEC+). Baghdad and the Kurds are in negotiations over production cuts.
