On Tuesday, the Israeli Energy Ministry said that its proposal on building two natural gas power units was approved by a government panel. The unit will be a part of the country’s plan to eliminate the consumption of coal by 2025 and improve air quality.
The units will be built at a power plant in Hedra, Israel and supply 1,200 MW of power. They will replace four coal-fired production units out of six in the power plant, reduce emissions and minimize the environmental impact.
Israel’s coal usage in electricity-producing fell to 30% in 2018, from 59% in 2010. In the past five years, the country has decreased air pollution by 50%.
