On Tuesday, 15 Japanese firms who use city gas announced that they have allied to boost the consumption of carbon-neutral liquefied natural gas (LNG) to help decelerate climate change.
The members of the alliance are from various sectors, include Tokyo Gas Co. Ltd., Toshiba Corp., Isuzu Motors Ltd., and Mitsubishi Estate Co. Ltd.
“We are seeking innovation in hydrogen, methanation, and carbon capture utilization technology, but it may take time. We want to spread the use of carbon-neutral LNG which is the most feasible measure right now to slash CO2 emissions,” stated Kunio Nohata, executive VP of Tokyo Gas.
Nohata declined to comment on the cost of carbon-neutral LNG, citing confidentiality obligations.
Tokyo Gas expressed its wish for more LNG producers to offer carbon-neutral LNG so that it can widen its procurement sources.
