Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc. (KPI) on Tuesday said that the country’s first polypropylene (PP) plant was 74% complete. The $2.6-billion project is being built in the Atyrau region and expected to come online in 2021. The plant will be able to produce 500,000 tons/year of PP, making it one of the world’s largest PP production facilities.
KPI plans to sell the PP output from the plan at the domestic market as well as overseas markets in Europe and former Soviet Union countries. When fully operational, the plant is expected to open jobs for 586 people and generate a revenue of KZT230 billion ($548.6 million) annually for Kazakhstan. Tengizchevroil, the operator of Kazakhstan’s giant Tengiz oil field, will supply feedstock for the plant.
