South Korean chemical maker LG Chem is collaborating with a local startup called Innerbottle to create eco-friendly plastic cosmetic containers that can be entirely recycled. The partnership is part of LG Chem’s parts to achieve the ESG business model, which encompasses the whole eco-cycle from plastic production, waste collection, sorting, and recycling.
Under the deal, LG Chem will provide its eco-friendly materials to Innerbottle that will use it to produce recyclable cosmetic containers. Innerbottle will embed a balloon-shaped pouch made of LG Chem’s nitrile butadiene latex (NB Latex) inside a transparent plastic bottle. This pouch prevents the cosmetics from leaving residues in the container, making the recycling process easier.
Innerbottle has offered similar solutions but with silicone pouches. LG Chem’s NB Latex will replace the silicone because it has higher elasticity, better oxygen blocking ability, and more competitive cost. Both companies will also set up a distribution network and logistics collection system to track the path from container production to collection.
