AlwaysFree: Maersk Plans World’s First Container Ship Running On Carbon-Neutral Fuel

Author: SSESSMENTS

A.P. Moller - Maersk plans to operate the world’s first container ship, which runs on carbon-neutral methanol. The company has chosen REintegrate as a partner to produce green fuel. REintegrate and its parent company, European Energy, will build a new plant in Denmark that will provide 10,000 tons of green methanol to Maersk’s vessels.

The planned plant will use renewable energy and biogenic CO2 to produce carbon-neutral methanol. It will be REintegrate’s third green methanol facility. A solar farm in Kassø, Southern Denmark, will provide the plant with the power it needs. The fuel production is expected to start in 2023, in line with Maersk’s plan to start operating the world’s first container vessel operated on carbon-neutral methanol.
