Sources familiar with plant operations said a crude distillation unit (CDU) restarted on Friday by Marathon Petroleum Corp at its 585,000 bpd Galveston Bay Refinery in Texas City, Texas.
The sources said Marathon Petroleum Corp plans to return the Pipestill 3B CDU to production by early next week. As part of a multi-unit overhaul underway at the refinery, Pipestill 3B was shut on Monday to connect units that have been shut since late May.
Started on May 23, the overhaul is expected to complete by the end of this month. It involves a residual oil hydrotreater, a reformer, hydrocracker, alkylation unit, aromatics recovery unit and an aromatics production unit. At the refinery, Pipestill 3B is one of two 225,000-bpd CDUs.
