AlwaysFree: Mitsubishi Corp, Shell Sign MoU On Blue Hydrogen Production In Canada

Author: SSESSMENTS

Mitsubishi Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shell Canada Products on low-carbon hydrogen using carbon capture and storage (CCS) in Edmonton, Alberta province, Canada. Mitsubishi plans to set up a low-carbon hydrogen facility near the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Scotford towards the latter half of this decade.

The plant will produce blue hydrogen extracted from natural gas. The resulting CO2 will be stored by Shell’s proposed Polaris CCS project. The first phase of the project aims at a production capacity of 165,000 tons/year. The hydrogen would be converted into blue ammonia and exported to Asian markets, especially Japan.
