Hungarian oil, gas, and petrochemical company MOL Group has teamed up with Swiss trading group Meraxis to develop a facility for the production of recycled polyolefin compounds. The ultimate goal for the project is to meet the global demand for high-quality recycle-based compounds. According to the deal, Meraxis will provide high-quality, post-consumer recycled materials to be blended with MOL virgin polyolefin resins.
The two companies will use the combined compounding knowledge to produce a new product portfolio at Aurora Kunststoffe GmbH, MOL’s German affiliate. Both firms will be responsible for marketing new products in the future. The partnership will offer unique solutions to the customers that encompass the entire product value chain from sourcing, compounding, sales, and technical service.
Meraxis CEO Stefan Girschik said MOL is a strategic partner that possesses the expertise to meet the growing demand for high-quality plastic recyclates. Meanwhile, MOL Group’s Executive VP Gabriel Szabó said that the project could help both companies to achieve their sustainability goals faster. MOL Group embarked on the compounding sector when it acquired Aurora Kunststoffe in November 2019.
