AlwaysFree: NextDecade Will Still Decide This Year On Texas LNG Export Project

Author: SSESSMENTS

To build Rio Grande LNG export plant in Texas, NextDecade Corp said it still planned to make a final investment decision (FID) in 2020. From the original deadline of May 11, the release of NextDecade’s quarterly earnings report would be delayed until around May 18.

To construct 2 liquefaction trains for $7.042 billion or 3 trains for $9.565 billion, NextDecade has signed a contract with Bechtel. About 0.77 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas or about 5.87 million tonnes per annum of LNG can be produced by each train. The project in 2023 expected to begin operation.

Meanwhile, as government lockdowns to stop the spread of the coronavirus cut global demand for natural gas and other forms of energy, several other North American LNG developers have delayed their export projects.

The decision to build Port Arthur LNG export plant in Texas has been delayed by Sempra Energy until 2021. To expand Corpus Christi export plant in Texas, Cheniere Energy Inc may not make a final investment decision (FID) until 2021.
