AlwaysFree: NIGC Moves Forward With Expansion Of Iran’s National Gas Network

Author: SSESSMENTS

State-owned National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) is moving forward with its expansion in Iran’s national gas network, according to the company’s Head Hassan Montazer Torbati. Iran’s gas network is currently over 36,000 kilometres, making it the largest in West Asia and among the world’s most extensive. NIGC also claims that Iran’s natural gas network is among the world’s most modern and is equipped with updated transmission, measuring, and pressure boosting devices.

Torbati said the pipeline had reached 30,000 Iranian villages and 1,148 cities covering more than 22 million households. He noted that 97% of Iran’s urban population and 82% of people in its rural regions have access to gas supplies. The company plans to extend the gas network to reach 45,000 km in the Iranian calendar year of 1404 (starts in March 2025).

It expects that over 30.000 villages will be connected to the national gas network every year until it reaches nearly 100% of Iran’s population. In the first four months of the ongoing Iranian calendar year, more than 1,000 villages and 11 cities were linked to the network.

According to NIGC data, Iran’s daily gas production capacity stood at more than 810 Mcm. The gas is mostly consumed by domestic household customers and power generation plants. Iran also exports its natural gas to its neighbours such as Turkey and Iraq.
