AlwaysFree: NOC Warned Eastern Libya of Worsening Power Outages

Author: SSESSMENTS

On Wednesday, Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) warned the eastern part of the country of worsening power outages due to the blockade of oil and gas facilities that has been going on for months.

Blackouts and power cuts in the eastern regions have sometimes lasted for around 12 hours in recent days when usually the western part of the country is the one facing it the most. The state-run power company in eastern Libya has stated that the electricity supply deficits have amounted to 270 MW.

Natural gas supplies to power stations in the eastern cities of Benghazi and Zueitina are predicted to be fully suspended by August 15. The two cities’ power stations have seeing dropping supply from 250 mcfpd to only 160 mcfpd.

The NOC has disclosed that imports of diesel to operate power stations in the country have caused severe financial problems.

Local refineries in Libya have been cutting fuel outputs due to the closure of oil fields and ports. The sizable condensate stockpiles, which would be damaging to the environment if being disposed of by burning, take parts in the issue.
