For the week ended December 21, North America posted a 9.2% year-on-year decrease in chemical railcar traffic, but up by 4.9% week-on-week at 45,559 carloads.
Data released by the Association of American Railroads (AAR) showed that for the year to date, the chemical railcar traffic in the region slumped by 1.5% from 2018.
In the US only, chemical railcar traffic was 32,380 carloads, decelerated by 7.8% year-on-year but still increased by 4.76% week-on-week. Year-to-date it went down by 0.6%.
In Canada, the total volume of railcar traffic was 12,249, up by 4.3% week-on-week but down by 12.5% from the same period last year. Year-to-date, it slid down by 3.4%.
Mexico posted a total of 930 carloads, posting a yearly decline of 11.5% and sequential decrease of 18.5%. Year-to-year, the decrease was 6.5%.
