AlwaysFree: Norway’s Oil Strike to Expand

Author: SSESSMENTS

On Tuesday, Norway’s Lederne labor union said that the ongoing oil strike would expand starting from October 10 unless a wage deal can be accomplished in the meantime.

The expansion would affect four more fields, which are Equinor’s Oseberg South, Oseberg East, and Kristin fields, as well as the ConocoPhillips-run Ekofisk Bravo/Kilo installation. 93 more employees would join the strike.

A spokesman for the Norwegian Oil and Gas Association (NOG) said that it was still too early to say how it would affect oil and gas output.

Lederne is fighting for better financial conditions for its members. It demands the offshore wage agreement to also cover workers at onshore remote control rooms.

Originally, the dispute leading to the current strike started on September 30, when wage talks between Lederne and the NOG collapsed. However, the first production outages only started on October 5 when six offshore oil and gas fields were shut on the strike, hitting 8% of Norway’s output capacity or 330,000 boepd.

Lederne said that it sent a proposal for a solution on Tuesday but the terms were not met.

Lederne union chief Audun Ingvartsen said, “We received a reply from the NOG to our proposal, but it was not specific enough, and we have decided to escalate the strike.”
