According to the latest report from a private data provider, 6 of 38 global oil and gas discoveries made in the third quarter of 2019, were located in Norway. Colombia was in second position with five discoveries. Egypt and Trinidad were in the fourth spot with four each, followed by Guyana and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the fifth with three each.
The report showed that South America and Europe dominated global oil and gas discoveries in the third quarter with eight discoveries each. Asia and Africa followed with five each. Meanwhile, the Former Soviet Union (FSU) and the Middle East made three discoveries.
The report also noted that 21 of 38 discoveries made during the period were conventional oil discoveries. The rest consisted of 15 gas discoveries, one heavy oil discovery, and one Coalbed Methane (CBM) discovery.
Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation made four discoveries, the most among global operators. Aker BP, ADNOC, and BHP followed with three discoveries each, while Equinor, Oil & Gas Development Company, and Tullow Oil made two each. The other operators made one discovery each during the period.
