Pakistan’s LNG imports fell in June amid measures to contain the spread of coronavirus which dampened economic activities, data from the country’s Bureau of Statistics showed. However, LNG imports are expected to rebound in August and September due to higher demand from the power sector.
According to the data, Pakistan imported 570,000 tons of LNG last month, declining by 25.4% from a year earlier. In the first half of 2020, LNG imports stood at 3.59 million tons, 18.13% lower than the same period last year. On a value basis, Pakistan’s LNG imports fell 41% year-on-year to $166 million in June, compared to $279 million in the same month last year.
