PBF Energy, one of the US’s biggest independent refining companies, has been assessing a possible conversion of an idled hydrocracker unit in a refinery in Louisiana into a renewable diesel production complex.
PBF Energy plans to retrofit the PBF Chalmette Refinery’s hydrocracker unit, which has been idled since 2010, with new technology to accommodate renewable diesel production.
The project would include the construction of a pretreatment unit that will enable Chalmette Refining to purify vegetable oils, fats, and grease prior to conversion.
PBF Energy will make a USD550 million of capital investment for the project and the final investment decision (FID) is estimated after local taxing bodies in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, consider the project.
The state of Louisiana has offered PBF Energy an incentive package, which includes effective talent training and attraction program, to secure the project.
