Petronas Dagangan Bhd (PetDag) and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem) said that their business was unaffected by a fire incident in the Pengerang Refinery Complex on Sunday night. Both companies have submitted filing with the stock exchange reporting no impact on their operations and finances.
The fire occurred at the Diesel Hydrotreating Unit (DHT) operated by Pengerang Refining and Petrochemical (PRefChem) in the Pengerang Refinery Complex (PIC) at 10.39pmlocal time on Sunday. The incident, which caused five casualties, is the second fire at PIC in less than a year. A similar incident emerged at an atmospheric residue desulphurization unit (ARDS) in April last year.
PRefChem, a 50:50 joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Malaysia's Petronas, operates a 300,000 bpd refinery, a 1.3 million tons/year cracker, and other units which can produce propylene, butadiene, benzene, polyolefins, and ethylene glycol.
