Petronas has selected BASF to provide its OASE purple technology for the Acid Gas Removal Unit process at the state-owned oil and gas company’s latest Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) project. This marks the first contract for BASF’s OASE Gas Treatment technology. Petronas successfully started up the PFLNG DUA in February 2021 and completed its Performance Test Run in May 2021. The project is designed to extract gas from deepwater reservoirs in depths up to 1.5 kilometres.
According to BASF’s website, the OASE purple is an amine-based solution to acid gases such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from natural gas. Acid gas removal is required to prepare the natural gas for liquefaction and pipeline transportation.
