Author: SSESSMENTS

According to the company’s website media release on March 8, 2023, PETRONAS organised a vendor engagement session as part of its initiative to boost the capabilities of local companies in Malaysia’s oil and gas services and equipment (OGSE) industry.

More than 300 participants ranging from local contractors and oil and gas professionals attended the one-day event held at the Sabah International Convention Centre, here.

“We would like to thank the Sabah Government for its commitment in supporting local entrepreneurs together with PETRONAS, especially in overcoming challenges in the oil and gas business.

“It is crucial for us to build, as well as maintain relationships with vendors to generate value. The industry is ever changing; it is therefore important to fortify its ecosystem through sustainable vendor development programmes,” said Head of Industry Shaping and Collaboration, PETRONAS Group Procurement, Syaharudin Hassan.

The event was attended by Permanent Secretary of State Ministry of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship, Datuk Thomas Logijin. Also present was Mustafa Akbar Reza, Head of Operations, Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC), who shared on initiatives from the National OGSE Industry Blueprint (OGSE Blueprint) 2021-2030, including talent development and financing, to add value to OGSE companies. He also shared on the OGSE Development Grant for innovation, technology and export.

“As an agency under the Ministry of Economy overseeing the OGSE Blueprint, we are encouraged to note strong interest from Sabah OGSE companies on government support to help grow and explore new business areas. We hope vendor engagements such as this event organised by PETRONAS will drive the local OGSE industry to leverage on available initiatives designed to strengthen their sustainability in line with national economic development plans,” said Mustafa.

The engagement session provided vendors an overview of PETRONAS’ business landscape in Sabah, as well as the company’s activity outlook. Vendors were also briefed on the company’s licensing and procurement processes.

The Sabah State Government and PETRONAS remain committed to creating values that will support economic growth and ensuring the resilience of the local OGSE ecosystem.
